Alpine Park -- Salida, CO

Our own Al Fisher was in Salida, CO last week on a hunting trip. I know he went downtown but don't know if he drove by Alpine Park. This park covers one city block bordered by 4th St. on the east, 5th on the west, E Street on the south and F St. on the north. This photo is from a picture postcard that shows the diagonal broad walkway through the park. You can see the gazebo in this picture as well as the two stone lions that guard the entrance to the park.

I spent many a day here just hanging out. We would throw baseballs, frisbees, and shoot some hoops, too! In the evening, as a teenager, some of us would hang out on the benches facing F street as that was the main drag through town. If we were fortunate, we would see one of our friends out cruising and he would pick us up and we thought we were cool.

If you ever make it to Salida, stop by Alpine Park ... great memories were made there!
